A bailar! Gerardo Contino y Los Habaneros got the crowd up and dancing at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in TEDMED 2014. Performing in front of a packed audience of the world's leading scientists, innovators, and entrepreneurs, the band played songs from their debut album, SOMOS LATINOS, as well as "Pasastes Por Aqui," composed by Oriente Lopez. Gerardo Contino spoke about his involvement with Musicians on Call, a non-profit organization that takes musicians into hospitals to sing at the bedsides of patients as a form of healing. Check out the video of the bands performance that one fan sent it, as well as photos. Muscians included: Axel Tosca Laugart (piano), Oriente Lopez (flute/keyboard), Bam Bam Rodriguez (bass), Ismel Wignall (congas), and Gerardo Contino (vocals). A tribute to Salsa music and dancers everywhere, "Venimos Comercial," from Los Habaneros debut album, SOMOS LATINOS, was officially released on August 5, 2014. A homage to NYC's Latino communities in Spanish Harlem and the Lower East Side, the music video for Venimos Comercial celebrates one of the major homes of Salsa in the world. Featuring professional and amateur dancers, this video and song are all about letting go of any inhibitions, and just dancing! The song and music video feature the dynamic percussion duo, Luisito Quintero and Roberto Quintero, each performing stellar solos. The video was produced by VaFa Productions and directed by Arash Azizzada and Ramin Bajoghli, both of Washington, DC. Check out our latest video and share it if you like it! From NYC with love, G.C. y Los Habaneros Supported by an artist grant from Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, we are extremely excited to create ORGULLO CULTURAL. This program is aimed specifically at the youth of Spanish Harlem and will include workshops about Afro-Latin music, dance, and culture. Free and open to the public, Orgullo Cultural will be held at the historic Camaradas El Barrio. Featuring legendary percussionist, Roman Diaz, the evening will engage youth on the relationship between Afro-Latin religion and culture on music, as well as dance workshops by professional dancers, and an art exhibition by Cuban artist Eliezer Leicea.
